Here are some of the excellent opportunities and facilities the University and surrounding city has to offer.
There are a range of facilities and events on campus that enable students to enjoy the social side of university. These include the University’s state of the art facilities for sports and leisure such as our University of Worcester Arena and Campus Gyms. There is also the Students’ Union societies and sports clubs where you have lots of opportunities for participating, volunteering and fundraising:
At University
- Sports – there are a wide range of students’ union sports clubs here at the University of Worcester. There are a wide variety of sports clubs students can join. Our university teams compete nationally and each year, there is a Varsity contest where sports teams from University of Worcester compete against University of Gloucestershire. If competitive sport isn’t for you there are a number of recreational or social memberships available to you too.
- Societies – there are a wide range of students’ societies here at the University of Worcester. There are a wide variety of societies students can join. If the current societies on offer don’t interest you, you can even start your own with support from Worcester’s Students’ Union!
- Students’ Union – The University students’ union regularly plans events for students across the university including celebrating the Worcester student achievements in ‘celebration week’, festive activities, an all-student magazine, volunteering opportunities (put in link – https://www.worcsu.com/volunteer/ ) and a range of events throughout the year. - The Hangar and meeting places – The Hangar is a central campus bar located in St. Johns which hosts fun events such as quiz nights, comedy shows, fundraisers and Friday night Karaoke. There is also a food hall, Student’s Union shop and range of cafes across the campuses for you to relax between your classes.
Local Fun
- Shopping- If Worcester is new to you, you may wonder what the city has to offer. In the centre of the city, there are a range of local sellers and chain brand shops which is a five-minute walk away from the University’s City Campus. Worcester centre boasts a two shopping centres (Reindeer court and CrownGate) as well as cathedral square. Around the City, there are also retails parks such as Blackpole retail park and within a short drive, bus or train away, you can reach places such as Malvern, Droitwich, Cheltenham and Birmingham for a day of shopping!
- Nature and Days out– Worcester is surrounded by nature and facilities for a fun day out. There are a wide range of fun activities in and around Worcester, including walking trials and days out such as:
- Malvern Hills
- Go Ape! – The Wyre Forest
- West Midland Safari Park
- Three counties showground (with events on throughout the year!)
- The Great Worcester Maize Maze
- Hartlebury Common Local nature reserve
- Worcester Racecourse
- Two cinemas and the Swan Theatre
- Heritage and culture places, such as Worcester Catheral, Severn Valley Railway, Croome court and Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum
- The annual Victorian Christmas Market and Circus

- Food, drink and nightlife – Worcester boasts a multitude of restaurants, pubs and bars throughout the city centre which are a 5-minute walk from the University’s City Campus. There is also Tramps nightclub which partners with our student’s union and is the official host for welcome week. There is also Sin and Bushwhackers which is very popular with students.
- Transport links- There are two train stations in Worcester, with the main train station being a 5-minute walk from the University’s city campus and takes you straight in to the centre of Birmingham.
